MHH41: Interview w/ Karin Peter, Community of Christ Quorum President

Join me, Colleen, as I fall in love with the Community of Christ! I have a lovely visit with my friend Karin Peter, President of the 5th Quorum of the 70, in a church that you may know by their old name, the RLDS Church. She gives me some history on how the Community of Christ came to be, and why they are “Team Emma.” If you caught the last Grace/Works discussion in Episode 39, this one is much deeper! Explore what true diversity looks like in gender, race and sexual orientation, what female ordination is like, and their unique view of the literal truth claims of The Book of Mormon. Karin beautifully explains the adaptive nature of the Community of Christ and what her image of “God” looks like. I know, I’m really selling it, right? What can I say, I’m in love! And to conclude the episode, a Sunstone Interview featuring Benjamin Shaffer of Christ’s Church, a fundamentalist sect of Mormonism. Colleen has a fascinating time learning more about this particular sect, how it is the same yet very different from Mainstream Mormonism. Living the Law of Consecration? Polygamy? Foreordination and personal revelation? It’s all in there. Video of Benjamin Shaffer, Mythrin and Mormon Zodiac can be found on Patreon.

Check out a FREE special interview on Patreon this week, Mark Whitley brings us “Why I Don’t Drink,” a pros and cons discussion of his decision not to partake in alcohol following his faith transition away from Mormonism.  The direct link is in the show notes.

MHH30: Interview w/Ethan Dodge, Sam’s Hunger Strike Update, and BYU’s Amnesty Loophole

Colleen gives an update on Sam Young’s Hunger Strike this past week in downtown SLC. Then she RANTS about the GIANT loophole that basically makes BYU’s recent Amnesty Policy completely worthless, as  was demonstrated at BYU-I when a student was expelled by her Bishop following a sexual assault. And to wrap things up on a lighthearted note, she gives you the gift of Ethan Dodge of MormonLeaks, an interview from Sunstone.  It’s basically lots of shit talking and cheap jokes. Colleen sounds really stupid, and Ethan shows off his nerdy smart knowledge correcting her. They both practice roasting Ryan McKnight, the ego behind MormonLeaks. For bonus points, what’s the phrase in this video that would make a winning drinking game prompt? Check out the FULL VIDEO of the interview on Patreon!
