Chloe, Paige and Colleen tackle the topic of Motherhood, and all it’s heavy connotations within the Mormon Culture. We explore each of our own journeys through the decision to have children or not. What is nurturing? What does it look like? Is every woman built to be a mother? We discuss living an authentic life, true to finding your own joy, and in chasing passionately the things that fulfill you. And also, what to do when others try to cast shade on our joy? What are we each doing to change the narrative that women must be mothers in order to be happy and “fulfill the measure of their creation”? “Wives, come home from the typewriter, the laundry, the nursing, come home from the factory, the cafe. No career approaches in importance that of wife, homemaker, mother–cooking meals, washing dishes, making beds for one’s precious husband and children. Come home, wives, to your husbands. Make home a heaven for them. Come home, wives, to your children, born and unborn. Wrap the motherly cloak about you and, unembarrassed, help in a major role to create the bodies for the immortal souls who anxiously await. ~ ETB. These “prophetic” words have ruined MANY lives!
This motherhood episode and discussion was SO important. I do not wish to have any children of my own but I do have a step child and it took me a very long time to deprogram my “Mormon brain” to realize that both of those things are okay. Thank you!
Amen!!! Thank you for your feedback! And cheers to a fellow step-mom who is also deprogramming!
